INTI is launching a new cassava-based adhesive and glycerin

Rubber Center of the National Institute of Industrial Technology (INTI) was able to perform a new adhesive based on cassava flour and glycerin to be used in the paper label pasted on glass containers.

In the manufacture of bio-diesel is a byproduct is glycerin, which is commonly used in cosmetic and pharmaceutical industry, but the amounts generated are too large to provide only those items, so we worked from the INTI finding new uses as well as give greater added value to cassava flour.

On the basis of glycerol and cassava flour is rich in starch, prepared a formulation able to develop a new adhesive biodegradable and nontoxic, which is exclusively for use on glass glue paper.

All tests were made test were satisfactory, for example:

-Resist the bucket test, which is placed in a bucket of ice water bottles labeled and one hour after the label should not be run out or
-The tag is easily removed, simply by placing the bottle in a few minutes with fresh water container, this simplifies the reuse of the bottles.

Such tests do not pass those stickers that need to be attacked with chemical agents and increased time for manual labor, in this case, simply by dipping it into natural water come out easily once it is wetted.

Another virtue that differs substantially from natural adhesives is that it produces mushrooms, you have made the necessary tests to confirm that being a natural product does not expire.

On the other hand the cost of this adhesive is significantly less than any other synthetic based adhesive used for these purposes.
In areas where cassava is grown as the provinces of Formosa, Chaco, Misiones, Salta and Jujuy, this development may represent the possibility of new entrepreneurs to start producing this adhesive unique, innovative and biodegradable.

Its preparation is very simple, only needs a common mixing equipment pallets. The idea is to be manufactured by a company label to close the whole process of the production chain.

There are a large group of small biodiesel producers who do not know what fate give the large amount of glycerin produced as a byproduct. One goal of this development is to bring together potential stakeholders in making the new adhesive with these small producers to provide you with glycerin and complete the chain.

INTI want to transfer this development which is available to all entrepreneurs residing mainly in the NOA and NEA in the country, as well as export the technology package to countries that are producers of cassava.
